"Total Recall" is a new band, made up of
five Italian veterans of the Metal music scene. Their main characteristic,
according to them, is the deep personal friendship that unites them.
Their first electronic album was released on January
20 and is called "WOODEN SCARS". It is dedicated to a brotherly
friend who is no longer alive.
In their effort to communicate their work worldwide,
they met with the Greek web radio "Excaliber", to which they gave an
interesting interview.

Why have you chosen the name «Total
Recall»?
We were looking for a suitable name for quiet sometime, as you will see
in the later questions this band was formed with a precise purpose. So the
story goes that one day we were in the studio working on the songs and Maura
was there. Maura is the sister of our brother Massy RIP.
We were remembering things we have done with Massy on
the various tours we made together in the previous bands we had and we recalled
an old EMBRACE DESTRUCTION’s t-shirt that was a rip off of the movie «COMMANDO».
Maura then said that the first movie ever she saw in her life was «TOTAL RECALL» and that Massy was with her that day, and that it was a very special day for
both of them.
In that precise moment it became obvious to all of us that this one
would have been the band name. That’s how the name «TOTAL RECALL» came to life.
Your album, which was released on January 20th, is called «Wooden Scars»
and is dedicated to a friend of yours who is no longer in life. Was his loss
the inspiration for the creation of the group?
Yes it was. Massy was a great bass player, he could have become easily a
pro, a session or whatever he wanted to be cause he was just so damn good. But
he played underground music all his life cause that’s just who he was.
We knew each other since more than 20 years, with some
of us he toured and played for that amount of time. He was like a brother to
the most of us and to the rest he was a great friend. Him not being there
anymore it was hard to process especially for Pigo and Stef. Massy always
wanted Pigo and Stef to come back to play together after more than 10 years
they were touring in separate projects, and so they did.

They formed TR with the precise idea to honor Massy’s
memory writing music that could be a collection of what he played in his
career. Metal in all his varieties, Heavy Hardcore, Post Hardcore and Numetal.
Danny joined immediately as he was the drummer for
EMBRACE DESTRUCTION, the last band in which Massy and Pigo played and toured
together.

After a few months Andy and Bleed were recruited as
both played in RISE ABOVE DEAD and toured with Massy in the past and they were
friends since 15 years.

The idea behind the band infact was to make sure it was formed by
members who either played or toured with Massy.
The producer we choose for the EP WOODEN SCARS, Mark, also played with
Massy in TRACES OF YOU and even the producer we picked for our upcoming album
Orkid knew Massy since 2002.
What does music mean for you, the «Total
Recall» band ?
Music is something you feel inside you as a second skin. The last form
of expression and the ultimate vassel to communicate with others.
For us in this band especially it’s the ultimate way to stay together
not only in the same physical place but to be together with our lost friend.
Through music his legacy will live on and we will be «Always Together», that by the way is gonna be the title of our
upcoming album.
If you had to give a specific identity
at your music, which would that be ?
Our style of music comes literally from the heart. We all had our
careers playing and touring for more than 20 years, so when we decided to get
in the studio together and to start writing songs, we knew that we were
experienced enough to understand if a song was good or it was crap.
We did not follow any pattern,
any particular genre, we just wrote music together, music that we liked and
that means something for us.
We cannot really identify it within a specific genre but we could say
that is a mixture of Heavy Low tuned Metallic Hardcore with some Numetal and
Post Hardcore vibes.
Has the deep friendship that you share
ever created any problems at your work?
No never. We get along just fine and it feels great to play in a band
together at last.
All of us we
are friends for 15 to 20+ years, but first of all we were each other band’s
fans.
It’s incredible
we have the opportunity to make music all together in the same band.
The timing of your debute, was almost
the same as that of the pandemic crisis of the Covid-19. To what extent do you
think that your plans were affected ?
To what extent we cannot really say but for sure our plans were deeply
affected. We needed to release the album in early April, by now we would had at
least 2 videos out with 5 more on the way, we were booked till September and
our release show was supposed to be April 10th.
But you know
what. Shit happens all the time, so we brainstormed a new strategy and started
to work with the Press this Music guys to implement it, and we are really happy
with the outcome so far.
What are your plans for the future ?
Our main goal is to make sure our music reaches the most possible numeber
of people over the globe.
So we are working hard to make this
happen to some extent. Also we would like to be able to perform the largest
number of shows possible when it will be allowed.
Ultimately
our plans are to keep writing and playing music together feeling that same
adrenaline we felt the very first show so so many years ago. Make and perform
music we know Massy would have been proud of keeping the 0134 mentality very
much alive.
